Rasam is very easy and simple to prepare.
No need of adding vegetables, suppose if you dont have vegetables in your house. Take a chance to try with few items following below methods. Rasam is very good to have when you feel like having cold and fever. And even when you have no time. Its a perfect solution for the tired ones.
The ingredients used are:-
Tomato 1 no
Tamarind gooseberry sized
Asafoetida powder 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Chilly powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Garlic 3 (if its small you can add up to 4-5 no)
Cumin seed 1/4 tsp
Black pepper 1/4 tsp
mustard seed 1/4 tsp
Jaggery powder 1 tsp,
Salt to taste
curry leaves 1 spring
Coconut oil 1 1/2 tsp and water three
cup.
First crush the garlic and keep it aside. Soak the tomato in little hot water for ten minutes. This is to remove the outer layer of the tomato and its easy to crush the tomato. Soak the tamarind in half cup of water for 5 minutes. Take a small jar of mixie and add the other mix such as cumin seed, Black pepper, Turmeric powder, chilly powder, Coriander powder and grind it well without water. Crush the jaggery, if its hard.
Take a cooking pan. Remove the tomato from water, peel the layer and crush it with a spoon. Squeeze the tamarind and pour the squeezed water into the pan. Pour some more water and squeeze the juice of the tamarind once more. Add the powdered jaggery. Mix it well and taste the salt. Add if required. Put the pan on the flame and let it be cooked for ten minutes.
Put a kadai on flame, pour the measured coconut oil let it be heated, then add dry chilie, mustard seed and finally curry leaves. Make sure that it splutters properly. Pour it into the boiling rasam curry and mix.
Remove the rasam from the flame. Its best to be served with rice.
